The Combination of Framingham Risk Score and Carotid Intima-Media Thickness Improves the Prediction of Cardiovascular Events in PatientsWith Type 2 Diabetes

چکیده
Identification of patients with a high probability of developing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is important for efficient treatment of type 2 diabetes. Although the Framingham risk score (FRS) is considered a useful tool for quantitative assessment of the risk for CVD in the general populations (1,2), the score does not have sufficient power to predict future onset of CVD in type 2 diabetic patients (3–5). In the current study, we first determined the incidence of CVD in a cohort of patients with type 2 diabetes and then compared the prediction of CVD by FRS alone, the combination of FRS with carotid intima-media thickness (IMT), and the combination of FRS and brachialankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV).

Combination of the Framingham Risk Score and Carotid Intima-Media Thickness Improves the Prediction of Cardiovascular Events in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate whether carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) add value to the Framingham risk score (FRS) in predicting the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in type 2 diabetic patients with a negative history of CVD. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Type 2 diabetic patients (n = 783) were retrospectively...

OBJECTIVE Consensus guidelines recommend cardiovascular risk assessment as the initial step of primary prevention. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incremental predictive value for coronary events conferred by carotid ultrasonography in addition to risk assessment by Framingham score and screening for silent myocardial ischemia in a cohort of type 2 diabetic patients. RESEARCH DESIGN...
متن کاملCarotid artery Intima-Media thickness and cardiovascular risk factors in chronic hemodialysis patients
Introduction: Common carotid artery intima-media thickness (CCA-IMT) correlates with cardiovascular mortality in patients under hemodialysis. In this investigation, we evaluated relationship between CCA-IMT with dependent and independent cardiovascular risk factors in chronic hemodialysis patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 51 chronic hemodialysis patients, (31 males and 20 fema...
متن کاملComparison of the Intima-media Thickness of Carotid Artery in Children with Diabetes Type One and Control Group Using Ultrasound
Background & Aims: Diabetes is a very important factor for stroke due to blocked blood vessels. It can involve systemic and cerebrovascular arteries at the same time via microangiopathy and macroangiopathy. This project aimed to compare the intima-media thickness of carotid artery in children with diabetes type and the control group. Methods: In this case-control study, 50 children with the age...

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the association of serum adiponectin and a set of traditional cardiovascular risk factors with carotid artery intimal-medial thickness (CIMT) and coronary artery calcium score (CACS), as markers of subclinical atherosclerosis in subjects with early type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: Carotid artery intima- media thickness (measured by B-mode ultrso...
